Founder-led education for movement professionals

Advanced movement science education for integrated clinical outcomes.

Nervous Movement Institute provides evidence-informed, principle-based education for movement and healing arts professionals, rooted in neural tissue freedom.

Built by Shane Ravenelle as a place for precise language, felt-sense learning, and practical practitioner education.

Institute foundation

Built around science, systems thinking, and clinical translation.

Mission

To provide evidence-informed, principle-based education for movement and healing arts professionals rooted in biomechanics, motor control, and physiological adaptation—emphasizing neural tissue freedom as a central framework for understanding movement, optimizing outcomes, and supporting integrated adaptive function.

Vision

To be a global leader in advanced movement science education, transforming rehabilitation and performance practices by equipping clinicians with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver exceptional outcomes for every patient.

Treatment Philosophy

Our treatment philosophy is rooted in the understanding that the human body is a dynamic, self-regulating system hugely governed by the nervous system. Rather than viewing the body as isolated parts, we see an interconnected, responsive network of continuous tension and discontinuous compression, where integrity and function are maintained through distributed forces and intelligent adaptation. Optimal health and performance emerge when the global tensegrity system—musculoskeletal, fascial, neural, vascular, and lymphatic—is supported to function as an integrated whole.

Methodology

"NEURO": Five principles for translating tensegrity into practice.

01

N — Notice

Observe the body and recognize its patterns.

Through observation of posture, positioning, movement, and protective patterns, we begin to understand how the body is adapting and communicating.

02

E — Explore

Use skilled assessment to explore what lies beneath the pattern.

Through hands-on assessment and movement evaluation, we explore muscle tone, tissue quality, mobility, and areas of tension or imbalance.

03

U — Unlock

Create opportunities for change.

Using appropriate hands-on treatment and therapeutic techniques, we work to address restrictions and improve the body's capacity for comfortable, efficient movement.

04

R — Reintegrate & Retest

Bring new possibilities into functional movement.

We reintegrate changes through movement and functional activities, then retest to see how the body responds and adapts.

05

O — Optimize

Build strength, resilience, and efficient movement patterns.

The final step focuses on strengthening and refining movement so improvements can carry over into daily life, activity, and long-term function.

The philosophy

Education that respects the nervous system as living continuity.

01

Freedom before force

Support tissues to glide, adapt, and communicate before asking for more range or intensity.

02

Continuity over parts

Study nerves, fascia, muscles, tendons, joints, bones, breath, and attention as a connected field rather than separate systems.

03

Practical translation

Turn neuroanatomy into cueing, assessment, self-inquiry, and client education that can be used immediately.
